Students
at Tri-Village Local School District participate in the 3rd
annual Service-learning Math and Science Fun Night.
Students in problem solving, Algebra 2 and advanced biology
courses design experiments and create games that highlight mathematics
and science standards for students in grades K– 6. The
local PATS (parents assisting students and teachers) provide
the light snacks made available and teachers come to help support
the event. The elementary students come and enjoy their choice
of math games and science experiments for about 1.5 hours one
evening. This year there were about 150 participants and well
over 25 different math and science activities to choose from.
The
event has become quite popular with the elementary staff and
students as well as the local community. We look forward to
repeating the event with even more participants next year.
The high school students were participating in one of the
school’s service learning activities which involves
collaboration between the elementary and the high school buildings.
