Georgetown
Jr.-Sr. High School will celebrate the Life of Martin Luther
King the week of January 12-16. During the week, the Learn and
Serve “Achievers” will make morning PA announcements,
informing the student body of the life and dreams of Martin
Luther King. The Achievers will provide teachers with an awareness
handout covering each respective morning announcement and place
large posters in the halls and cafetorium, both reinforcing
the morning message. The daily segments will cover his life,
his role in history and his lifelong efforts to achieve change
in our country through peace, pointing out that he lived in
very turbulent times. Many citizens of the United States were
experiencing violent confrontations and his strong leadership
was a tilting point towards peaceful resolutions. The classroom
activities and awareness announcements are during the week prior
to January 19. On Inaugural Day, we will tie his life and dream
with the theme, "America, Everyone's Dream."
On
Tuesday, January 20, the celebration of Martin Luther King’s
life and dream will culminate with the entire Georgetown Jr.-Sr.
High School student body observing the Presidential Inaugural
of President-Elect Barack H. Obama. The Learn and Serve Achievers
with conclude their efforts, tying Martin Luther King’s
dream to the American Dream; that all citizens of the United
States have the opportunity to be successful.
