Eastern Brown High School’s Advanced Art Class Field Trip

Janie Day , Eastern Local School District

Recently, the Eastern Brown High School’s Advanced Art Class took a field trip to the Gateway Museum, located in Maysville, Kentucky as part of a service learning project. While there, the students took part in a tour of the many examples of the local artwork, which are located on the flood walls of the city. This artwork depicts many of the historical events that are important to the local community. Through this tour, students were exposed to the concept of using art to depict the history of the community.

After the tour of the city, the class was given the chance to see the “Miniatures Exhibit.” This exhibition included miniature models of places ranging from country cottages and the home of the Lord of the Rings character Bilbo Baggins, to the scenes from the movie Titanic and the Buckingham Palace. Everything was made with every minute detail of the actual setting and was proportionally correct in scale from every angle.

Now back in the classroom setting, the Advanced Art Class is hard at work demonstrating their depiction of community history through art. Students will be completing their artworks on the “History of Brown County” very soon and will conclude their service learning project by donating their artwork to the local community.
